  • Current Weather Discussion

  • Weather Station Manager. I am a synoptician; therefore, my areas of expertice area in weather analysis and forecasting. It was my pleasure to be a part of the FSU Hurricane Chase Team druing the 1995 and 1996 hurricane seasons. My partners in vehicle were Jon Carney and Dan Gilmore. Areas of responsibility include LDM and data management, co-instructor for Current Weather Discussion class, assist the systems administrator with any data or minor computer problem. I help provide support to students, staff and faculty with respect to systems, data restoration and general help. I am responsible for the daily observations for the Department of Meteorology which include some instrumentation maintenance of our 30' tower. We have archive weather data available to non-profit research groups and education which includes GEMPAK formatted surface, upperair, MOS and NLDN data. The RAW text and uncoded data has surface, upperair and all the text products. We also have the following model data back-up, MM5, MESO, ETA, NGM, MRF, AVN, NOGAPS, RUC and ECMWF. There is an archive of hard copy DIFAX in the bomb shelter of the Love Building that has DIFAX from 1992 to 2001. I currently work on a volunteer basis with the Florida State University Department of Athletics forecasting for and providing operational realtime weather support for outdoor events. The reason for the track change in my graduate path is to increase my knowledge of Sport Management concentrating on event and facilities management. This will enable my desire and abilities to start my own consulting firm working with sporting events, teams, conferences, or leagues and to open a new avenue for future careers in meteorology.
