6) What software can I use to
predict orbits?
For PC's:
Paul Traufler's TrakSat - Available via anonymous ftp from
oak.oakland.edu as the file TRAK280.ZIP, or from
wuarchive.wustl.edu, in /mirrors/msdos/hamradio as TRAK280.ZIP.
TrakSat does the usual ground tracks for single satellites or a
user pre-defined list. It also provides spotting charts with star
charts, a view from space of a satellite's motion about the earth,
and orbit prediction tables. A Windows version, WinTrak, is also
available. See Paul's web page at
http://www.hsv.tis.net/~wintrak/indexns.html for WinTrak and
WinTrakPro.
PCTrack - This is also available via ftp from oak.oakland.edu. Use
PCT214.ZIP with the instructions given above for TrakSat. PCTrack
gives an excellent "3-D" view from space of several
satellites.
