11) What do I need to set up an HRPT ground station?

HRPT signals are sent by polar orbiting satellites (e.g., NOAA 10) on 1691 MHz. The GOES receiving chain can be used to receive HRPT signals but the antenna must be steered to follow the swiftly moving satellite (GOES satellites are effectively stationary). The dish can be replaced by a yagi or helix antenna; steering equipment for such antennas is less expensive than steering a dish. Specialized converters must be used for displaying and capturing the HRPT data stream. Currently Quorum and TimeStep market HRPT converters.

12) What cards are available?

It depends on what's to be received. APT and GOES are usually supported by the same card (some cards will also handle HF fax). Sources for PC's include OFS Software Quorum Communications, MultiFAX, TimeStep (Spectrum Intl. in the US), and Software Systems Consulting.
