FAST 2001 Participation

EXPLORES!/FSU GLOBE is proud to announce our participation in FAST 2001 in Cocoa Beach, FL.  We will host the following sessions at the Cocoa Beach Hilton:

Friday October 19, 2001

8:15 - 9:05 am, Hilton room Dunes II - GLOBE Hydrology Protocols

In this presentation, the GLOBE hydrology protocols will be discussed, including the importance of each protocol to monitoring water quality.  Sample data products from the GLOBE WWW database will also be presented as well as information regarding GLOBE training opportunities.  Alignment with State and National Science Education Standards will also be discussed.

9:25 - 10:15 am, Hilton room Dunes II - GLOBE Observation Protocols

In this presentation, an overview of some of GLOBE's suite of environmental observation protocols will be discussed, which include Atmosphere/GPS, Hydrology, and Soil/GIS.  Alignment with State and National Science Education Standards will also be discussed.

10:40 - 11:30 am, Hilton room Dunes II - GLOBE Atmosphere/GPS Protocols

In this presentation, the GLOBE atmosphere protocols will be discussed, including proper placement and use of various instruments, as well as the use of GPS.  Sample data products from the GLOBE WWW database will also be presented as well as information regarding GLOBE training opportunities.  Alignment to state and national standards will be presented. 

1:00 - 1:50 pm, Hilton room Dunes II - GLOBE Soil/GIS Protocols

In this presentation, the GLOBE soil protocols will be discussed, including field and lab characterization and soil temperature, as well as GIS analysis of LandSat satellite images.  Sample data products from the GLOBE WWW database will also be presented as well as information regarding GLOBE training opportunities.  Alignment with State and National Science Education Standards will also be discussed.

2:10 - 3:00 pm, Hilton room Dunes II - Weather Satellite Imagery in K-12 Classrooms

This presentation will discuss the uses of imagery and receiving technology in museums as well as elementary, middle and high school settings.  Information on how to integrate weather satellite receiving technology into the K-12 classroom is also discussed, including obtaining web-based imagery, as well as alignment of imagery-based activities with state and national science education standards.
