NOAA 5 was placed in a near circular,
polar orbit. The craft and its systems operated successfully,
providing scanned images and vertical temperature profiles to both
operational meteorologists and private interests with APT
capability. NOAA 5 remained operational for 1067 days until
deactivated by NOAA on July 16, 1979.
