NOAA 3 was placed in a near circular, polar orbit. The craft and its systems operated successfully, providing scanned images and vertical temperature profiles to both operational meteorologists and private interests with APT capability. NOAA 3 remained operational for 1029 days until deactivated by NOAA on August 31, 1976.
