NOAA 2 was placed in a near circular,
near polar sun synchronous orbit with an inclination of 102
degrees. The craft and its systems operated successfully, providing
scanned images and vertical temperature profiles to both
operational meteorologists and private interests with APT
capability. NOAA 2 remained operational for 837 days until
deactivated by NOAA on January 30, 1975.
