NOAA 1 was placed in a near circular orbit with an inclination of 102 degrees (posigrade). The craft was used operationally by NOAA (formerly ESSA). The craft and its systems operated successfully, providing both daytime and nighttime images to both operational meteorologists and private interests with APT capability. NOAA 1 remained operational for 252 days until deactivated by NOAA on August 19, 1971.
