SATELLITE DESCRIPTION:
The spacecraft was box shaped (40" by 40" long by 48" high) with three identical (3' by 5') solar panels attached. The satellite was Earth oriented and three-axis stabilized with 10,000 solar cells generating 250 watts of power. The craft weighed 736 pounds. The craft had four antennas: command and beacon, two real-time transmitting and on S-band playback antenna. The external areas were protected by multi-foil insulating blankets.
The craft contained two advanced vidicon cameras and two cameras with direct readout and delayed readout capabilities. Two high resolution infrared radiometers operated in the 3.4 to 4.2 micron region, one for storing images and one with APT capability. Two horizon scanners, sun sensors and freon gas jets provided the attitude control.
