Extra Costs for Out of State Teachers Interested in Florida EXPLORES!

Florida teachers/schools dedicate a PC as described elsewhere in the application. The costs normally covered by the project for in-state teachers include a stipend for the week, per diem reimbursement (meals and lodging), and transportation costs. There is no meeting registration fee; the project also provides the picnic lunch and banquet and materials reproduction free of charge. Each of these costs must be bourne by the out-of-state applicant (hopefully through district or school funding, try your technology monies!).

The weather satellite groundstation hardware/software package costs approximately $900 from Quorum Communications, of Irving, Texas (www.qcom.com). You can find contact information on their WWW site and mention that you are buying a Florida EXPLORES! APT system, and ask them to ship it to your school.

Daily per diem is estimated at $65 per night - we reserve rooms at a rate of approximately $45 per night and the normal in-state meal reimbursement for Florida is a paltry $21 per day.

Transportation will vary; Florida pays $0.29 per mile travelled. The closest reasonable airport is Orlando, a bit more than 1 hour away. If you fly in we recommend a rental car.

We will assess a meeting registration fee of $100 for out-of-state teachers to cover costs of the banquet, picnic, and reproduction of class materials.
