Professor Emeritus of Meteorology
Past research in theoretical problems arising in dynamic meteorology and geophysical fluid dynamics has included studies of strong atmospheric vortices, planetary atmospheres, atmospheric and oceanic turbulence, flows over topography in the presence of moisture, nonlinear studies of baroclinic instability, and explosive cyclogenesis. Current research interests: blocking, low frequency dynamics, baroclinic instability in zonally varying basic states; mixed baroclinic-barotropic instabilities.
