Lab and Classroom Rules

  1. Absolutely NO food or drinks are allowed in any of the computer labs at any time. Even the most careful among us is prone to the occasional slip, spill, or accident. We do not have the budget to replace thousands of dollars in equipment because of a splash of cola in just the right spot. Plus, the keyboards and mice get all cruddy and gross. Just don't.
  2. Do not sit on any of the desks in the computer labs. The cantilever design will not support your weight, and the tables will break. (This has already happened, so no further testing is required, please.)
  3. Be polite and respectful of your colleagues while using lab computers. Refrain from loud conversations and boisterous or offensive behavior while others are trying to get their work done.
  4. Do not unplug network or power cables from the lab computers without the consent of the computer support staff. These are not stand-alone home PCs: they depend on the network for their proper operation. If they become disconnected from their fileservers, they will behave badly, possibly requiring support intervention to restore them to full functionality.
  5. Please do not abuse or vent your frustration on our equipment. These are not militarily-hardened devices. They are also not yours. We do our best to keep things running smoothly and to provide a pleasant atmosphere for you to work in. Help us keep it this way for you, your colleagues, and next year's students.
  6. Should a printer run out of paper, go to the main office (LOV404) to obtain more.
  7. If you notice computer or printer issues, please let Bret or Kelly know. They can't fix it if they don't know it's broken. It helps if you can tell them which computer or printer needs attention. The computers and monitors have small labels on them which identify the computer, e.g., ML12, ATM06, etc. You can drop by the computer support offices in LOV407, or e-mail , or call Bret (644-2522) or Kelly (644-1550).

The department provides computing facilities, tools, and software for your education and benefit. Please do not abuse the privilege. Offenders may have their computer accounts revoked, and that may make successful completion of coursework difficult.
